Mater Dei College Hawks AFL Academy

The Year 8 Mater Dei College Hawks AFL Academy focusses on player development and skill acquisition with a heavy emphasis on team building and having fun. There is also a heavier focus on game sense development and introduction to more advanced game strategies and tactics. Students will be provided with the knowledge and decision-making skills necessary for success within the sport. Students will also be learning in the classroom to ensure that they are also developing their knowledge with regards to all things coaching, exercise, fitness and well-being.

Year 8 course structure includes:

  • 2 classes per week (1 x practical, 1 x theory)


  • Pre-season – fitness
  • Fitness Testing – AFL and AFLW Draft combine tests
  • Tailored AFL coaching programme for players
  • Introduction to Strength and Conditioning principles
  • Match footage and feedback
  • Skill assessments each semester

Year 8 AFL Competitions:

  • Year 8/9 Junior Boys CAS (ACC Competition)
  • Year 8/9 Eagles Schoolboys Cup (WAFC Competition)
  • Various scratch matches throughout the year

Year 8 AFLW Competitions:

  • Year 8/9 AFLW Dockers Cup (WAFC Competition)
  • Various scratch matches throughout the year

  • Club Tour – West Perth Football Club
  • Male and Female Guest Speakers from the West Coast Eagles, the Fremantle Dockers and West Perth Football Club players
  • Year 8/9 South West Camp (additional cost)

Pre-requisite: Application, trial and selection into the Mater Dei College Hawks AFL Academy.
