We continue, at Mater Dei College, to work with the Catholic Education
Office to revise Teaching and Learning programmes to meet the challenges
of our changing and complex modern world. Of particular note for us has
been the re-writing of the Year 8-10 school programmes and the
introduction of new resources. Mrs Darlene McGoorty has been a key
player in these initiatives. In 2009 the new Year 11 Course of Study
‘Religion and Life’ starts up and we will in turn step up to a more
vigorous and studious approach to our religious studies.
Retreats, reflection days and social action initiatives continue to be
opportunities for students and staff to reflect and focus on their own
faith journey. High points in the unfolding of our commitment as a faith
community this year have been. the Mater Dei Community Mass and the end
of year Graduation Mass for the Year 12's. We have also been blessed
with Homeroom liturgies conducted weekly by Deacon Paul Russell.
However, the defining event of our year has been the welcoming and
training of Student Special Ministers of the Eucharist and our hearts go
out to them as they begin on their journey of service to our school
community.
In conclusion I would like to extend a special word of appreciation to
my teaching colleagues who labour so honourably in the service of our
students.
