Dance at Mater Dei College is represented on two fronts, through
Physical and Creative Movement classes and the College Dance Team. These
students have once again displayed a good standard in representing the
college.
It is pleasing to note that the creative products of the Physical and
Creative Movement classes at Mater Dei continue to impress. Not only do
the students have in-class tasks to complete including cabaret dances
and skill development routines, the year 9 and 10 classes have also had
public performances to prepare for. The year 10’s again performing at
ACHPER and the year 9’s at the Showcase evening, a thrill for all those
involved. A special mention to those ‘untrained’ dancers who take in
their stride not only the public performances but the additional in
class tasks. The year 8 classes continue to experience a ‘taste’ of
dance performing beach dances and Aboriginal dances each term.
It was another very busy year for the students committed to the
co-curricular Dance Team. Some hard working students rehearsed on
Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings to be representatives of the
College at various festivals, including ACHPER and the Catholic
Performing Arts Festival. A local primary school tour was also
undertaken to raise our visibility in the community. It is great to see
enthusiasm from our male students in participating in dance, but it is
our talented girls who hold the ship together. Congratulations to our
choreographers this year, Rhiannon de Gaye, Stephanie-Kate Crothers,
Tyler Green and Ashlin McCamish whose collective creative talent was my
highlight for the year, producing some very strong choreography. Thanks
also to Miss Meckenstock and Mr Middleton for the support throughout the
dance season. Well done to all.
