Pastoral Care System

The Pastoral Care System at Mater Dei College

The College is mindful of its responsibility to care for the individual student's welfare and development.  In 2003 a vertical pastoral care system was introduced to offer further opportunities for our students to develop leadership skills in peer sharing.  The vertical pastoral care system consists of small multi-age homerooms as part of the existing College house system.

At the Year Level

At each Year level a Year Coordinator
is appointed.  This person has responsibility for Coordination of all activities within the Year Level and for the overall welfare of students within
the Year.

At the Homeroom level

The person charged with the responsibility for monitoring an individual student's progress and development is the Homeroom Teacher.  In the Vertical system
students from each Year Level are placed in one of 40 homerooms -
ten within each of Mater Dei's four Houses.

Familles are placed together in the same homeroom groups, and it is envisaged that homeroom teachers remain with the homeroom group
from one year to the next, enabling
the homeroom teacher to oversee
the students' progress over the five years of secondary schooling.

The Pastoral Care Team

Mater Dei College has a Pastoral
Care Team consisting of specialist staff.  The Pastoral Care Team is led
by the College Psychologist, Mr Paul Russell, and includes the two Student Advisors, Sister Margaret and Sister Regina, and the College Chaplain, Father Michael Leek, osb.  Students may make an appointment to see any
of the members of the Pastoral Care Staff through Student Administration.  Parents are also welcome to ring at
any time.
